New book sets out why Nature Positive is so critical now – and how it can be achieved across business, finance, governance and society

On the eve of World Environment Day, a landmark publication is being launched that promises to reshape how governments, businesses, and civil society approach the biodiversity crisis. Becoming Nature Positive: Transitioning to a Safe and Just Future – published by Routledge Earthscan – is the first book in the world to explore the emerging global goal of ‘Nature Positive’ in depth.

Bringing together leading voices from science, policy, finance, and conservation, the book charts the evolution of the Nature Positive concept, explains why it matters, and sets out the transformative shifts needed to make it a reality. It calls for urgent and systemic change across all sectors of society to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030 – a target agreed by nearly 200 countries under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at COP15 in December 2022.

Nature Positive is more than a slogan. It is a unifying vision to ensure that, by the end of this decade, there is measurably more nature than there was at its start – for the benefit of people and planet. But delivering on this ambition will require confronting a range of persistent challenges, including inadequate financing, inconsistent metrics and the need for stronger global collaboration.

As the world faces mounting ecological and climate crises, Becoming Nature Positive argues that a just, sustainable, and resilient future depends on restoring and regenerating the natural systems that support all life. From boardrooms to government halls and grassroots communities, the book provides a roadmap for embedding nature at the heart of decision-making.

This authoritative volume is both a wake-up call and a practical guide – a timely contribution to global efforts to forge a safe, just, and nature-positive future for all.
