ANCA at NewYork Climate Week

Climate Week NYC each year and is attended by hundreds of world leading politicians, business executives and civil society representatives. They’ll share their global outlook on driving climate action and igniting progress through engaging interviews, discussions and major announcements. The African Natural Capital Alliance will be taking part in this annual one-week event in various sessions.

Alligning ourselves with these year’s theme of It’s Time that highlight the urgent need for progress, to triple renewable capacity and double energy efficiency. We will be taking part in the following sessions:

Session: A Strategic Harmonising Approach To Land Restoration and fighting climate change Restoration

This event showcases an initiative that has been developing over the past year, a strategic harmonisation of projects across Africa. Stakeholders gathered at the Accelerating Nature-based Solutions Conference in Zambia earlier this year and emerged with eight projects to take this harmonisation initiative forward.

Session: Bridging the gap: synchronising finance with nature for scalable, bankable Nature-based Solutions in Africa.

This session explores how organizations define high-integrity nature-based projects and assess risks, including their internal capacity for technical evaluations. It examines the role of different capital types in de-risking projects and facilitating approvals, while comparing the current viability of biodiversity vs. carbon projects. Participants will also discuss comfort levels with evolving carbon market regulations and preferred project types and investment stages.

Session: Measuring Nature Positive: Between rigor and practicality

This event will present and discuss progress on reaching consensus on meaningful and practical state of nature metrics in order to accelerate collective action toward securing a nature positive world. These metrics can act as the primary means of measuring changes in the state of nature, and thus nature positive outcomes, supporting a number of key use cases.

Session: Financing Nature and Biodiversity in Africa

This intimate gathering will bring together a select group of leaders from the private sector, government, civil society, and international organizations to explore innovative strategies for mobilizing private capital to protect Africa’s vital natural assets. With Africa’s rich biodiversity under increasing threat, the need to accelerate nature finance has never been more critical.
