October 3, 2025: The African Natural Capital Alliance (ANCA) has unveiled its inaugural Governing Council, bringing together the CEOs of some of Africa’s largest financial institutions alongside leading experts in science, research and conservation. This milestone marks a significant step in ANCA’s mission to catalyse investment, innovation and collaboration towards building nature-positive economies across the continent.
As ANCA surpasses 130 members with collective assets of over £1 trillion, the newly appointed Governing Council will play a central role in guiding the Alliance’s strategic direction, advocating for nature-positive finance, and embedding sustainability within Africa’s financial systems.
The new Governing Council members are:
- Jason Quinn, CEO, Nedbank
- James Mwangi, CEO, Equity Bank
- Arthur Oginga, CEO, Old Mutual Holdings
- Eliane Ubalijoro, CEO, CIFOR-ICRAF
- Dr. David Obura, Chair, Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)
- Kaddu Sebunya, CEO, African Wildlife Foundation
The Council will be formally introduced at the upcoming ANCA Summit 2025 in Cape Town, themed “Unlocking Africa’s Natural Capital: Catalysing Investment for a Resilient and Equitable Future.” The Summit will convene leaders, policymakers and innovators to accelerate action on nature finance and sustainable growth across Africa.
